The Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, a member of the Socialist Democratic Party, announced his resignation on Monday, the day after the victory of far-right candidate George Simon.
Ciolacu, who has led the government since December 2020, submitted his resignation after expressing distrust in parliament. In his statement, the Prime Minister described his administration as a turnover in the socialist project aimed at combating poverty and inequality.
The outgoing cabinet's Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicolae Ciuca stated: "It is important that the new government continues this path, ensuring stability and predictability for the country."
